INTERNSHIP EVALUATION EMILIJA NATKEVICIUTE

Internship evaluation

Emilija Natkeviciute

Construction Architect, Internship from February 2019 – July 2019

Describe your school and field of study:

I am studying BA in Architectural Technology and Construction Management at UCL Erhvervsakademi og Professionshøjskole.

Why did you apply for an internship at DOMUS?

I was interested in housing and renovation projects and wanted to do my internship in a rather small company that could offer various academically challenging assignments.

What kind of assignments and tasks have you worked with during your internship at DOMUS?

During 6 months, I was part of 5 project teams, both renovation, and new construction projects. I was preparing floor plans and 3D views for presentations, developing architectural designs and technical solutions.

Describe the difference between studying and working as an intern at DOMUS?

The greatest thing about actually working at DOMUS was the professional teams that always guaranteed good workflow and quality. I felt guided and supervised more than at school. I felt that I had more time for detailing, while at school, a lot of things were a bit rushed.

What did you learn at DOMUS?

First of all, discipline and time management since I was traveling from Odense to Lyngby every day.

Moreover, in the beginning, I was learning the complexity of the initial projects and preliminary designs. Later on, I had a chance to work on detailing the project, addressing technical and operational aspects. I was learning about materials and coordination with professional discipline constraints. Most of the time, I was working in Revit, but I also
have tried working with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop.

Did the internship change your perspective on the building industry?

I was glad to be part of highly creative teams and not only produce technical material but to be part of architectural decision making.

Did the internship expose you to unknown areas within the building industry or unexpected interests?

I got interested in social housing projects, and I am planning to write my bachelor thesis on this topic. I feel inspired by DOMUS works, and I am hoping to have a chance for future collaboration.

Which skills did you acquire during your internship at DOMUS?

Generation of the preliminary design, Technical and architectural 2D and 3D drawing, BIM administration and management.
